Infirmary Health Completes Mobile-First Heart Valve Procedure

Infirmary Health has announced that Dr. Mina Jacob, a structural and interventional cardiologist with Diagnostic & Medical Clinic, has successfully performed the first TriClip G4 procedure in Mobile and one of the first in the region. This innovative, minimally invasive treatment offers new hope for patients suffering from tricuspid regurgitation (TR). This condition causes blood to leak backward into the heart, leading to symptoms like fatigue, swelling and shortness of breath. For many TR patients, medication alone is not enough, and open-heart surgery may not be a viable option. The TriClip G4 system provides an alternative, allowing physicians to repair the tricuspid valve without major surgery. Using a catheter-based approach, the device is guided through a vein in the leg to clip together sections of the faulty valve, helping restore proper blood flow and improve quality of life. While a handful of hospitals across the Gulf Coast have recently begun offering this procedure, Mobile Infirmary is among the first to bring the technology to our community. Jacob, who is board-certified in general and interventional cardiology, has a special interest in valvular heart disease and minimally invasive valve repair procedures.
