Infirmary Health Performs Gulf Coast-First Procedure

The Infirmary Health Heart & Vascular Institute said Dr. Stanley N. Thornton at Thomas Hospital has performed the first renal denervation (RDN) procedure on the Gulf Coast. This Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment is for certain patients with high blood pressure that is not controlled by lifestyle changes or medications. The Symplicity Spyral RDN system targets nerves near the kidneys to help reduce blood pressure and lower health risks. Thomas Hospital’s cardiovascular program offers comprehensive heart care, including Baldwin County’s only open-heart surgery program.
