Mobile Infirmary Performs First-In-Region Treatment

Infirmary Health’s Heart & Vascular Institute announced that Mobile Infirmary has become the first hospital in the region to utilize the newly U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved AGENT Drug-Coated Balloon (DCB) by Boston Scientific for the treatment of coronary in-stent restenosis (ISR). ISR occurs when a previously placed coronary stent becomes narrowed again, limiting blood flow to the heart. The AGENT DCB offers a novel solution by delivering a therapeutic drug directly to the arterial wall during balloon angioplasty, without leaving a permanent implant behind. This approach reduces the risk of additional complications and preserves future treatment options. Dr. George Eyrich and Dr. Mina Jacob, interventional cardiologists with the Heart & Vascular Institute, successfully performed the first AGENT DCB procedures at Mobile Infirmary.
