Mobile Infirmary To Launch General Surgery Residency Program
Mobile Infirmary, an affiliate of Infirmary Health, has received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to launch a General Surgery Residency Program beginning in July 2026. Over the course of five years, the program will train a total of 15 general surgery residents across Infirmary Health’s network of facilities. Residents will gain extensive hands-on experience, completing more than 1,000 surgical cases across a range of specialties including alimentary tract, bariatrics, the abdomen and its contents, breast, skin and soft tissue, endocrine system, pediatric surgery, surgical critical care, surgical oncology, trauma and emergency surgery, thoracic and vascular surgery. The program will be led by Dr. Derek E. Robinson, a surgical educator and clinician who graduated from the University of Alabama and University of South Alabama. He completed his general surgery residency at Brookwood Baptist Health, where he later served as associate program director for more than a decade. Robinson brings a wealth of clinical experience to the program, including endocrine and gastrointestinal surgery, vascular access, wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The General Surgery Residency Program at Mobile Infirmary is accepting applications for its inaugural class.
