Orthopedic Surgeon Returns To USA Health As Interim Chair

Dr. Jeffrey L. Brewer has returned to USA Health, where he will serve as interim chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Alabama (USA) Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine. A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Brewer served as an attending physician at USA Health from 2015 to 2022 and directed the orthopedic surgery residency program from 2019 to 2022. Brewer was most recently an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Miami’s health system, where he served on the Orthopaedic Residency Curriculum Competency and Leadership Steering committees for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Brewer earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed an internship in general and orthopedic surgery. He finished his residency in orthopedic surgery at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was named the department’s Resident of the Year for 2011-2012. He also completed a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Brewer is an author of several academic journal articles and book chapters. He has presented research at numerous conferences, including when he served as a mentor to orthopedic surgery residents at USA Health.
