SMC Program Director Selected As VP For Organization

MOBILE, Ala. — Springhill Medical Center (SMC) program director for the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Julio R. Garcia has been selected to serve as vice president of the Baromedical Nurses Association (BNA). In 2020, Mobile-based Garcia was selected by his peers in the hyperbaric medical field to serve on the Associate Council for the Undersea Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), and he is now being appointed BNA vice president (VP). The role is to transition into the presidency in 2024. The new VP role is concurrent but separate from the active UHMS board member position Garcia holds and is a voting position. SMC’s program is as a supporting agency for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Underwater Astronaut Training program for the SpaceX Dragon Crew-1 and Inspiration4 missions and for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Garcia was also recently named an ambassador for STOP THE BLEED, a life-saving training program. He has been instructing others in the technique for several years and is now assisting with a publicity campaign to get others trained.
