Springhill Medical Center Receives Highest Rating For CABG Program

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) recently gave Springhill Medical Center’s coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) program its highest rating of three stars. This Overall Quality rating is based on patient outcomes from July 2021 to June 2024 and marks the program’s third consecutive three-star achievement for overall CABG quality. This STS comprehensive rating system allows for comparisons regarding the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country. Approximately 10% of participants in the STS National Database received the three-star rating for overall CABG surgery. The STS National Database is considered the specialty’s leader in quality improvement that provides a true national benchmark for cardiothoracic surgery. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive clinical registries with data on nearly 10 million procedures from more than 4,300 surgeons, including 95% of adult cardiac surgery procedures.
