Council members conduct a scientific evaluation of proposals to ensure resources are directed toward innovative ideas in breast cancer research. Sarkar has been involved in cancer research with an emphasis on the role of the tumor microenvironment in cancer progression, particularly the role of tumor neovascularization, since her predoctoral years. Sarkar’s research efforts have led to publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. She has also authored book chapters and presented her work at national and international professional meetings. BCRFA has invested more than $15 million in Alabama-based breast cancer research since 1996.
