Former New Fairhope Hotel To Reopen As Summit Street Inn

Originally built in 1925 as the New Fairhope Hotel, the newly reimagined Summit Street Inn is set to open in early summer. The boutique hotel at 131 Fairhope Avenue is in the heart of Fairhope’s Bayfront Historic District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. The 4,190-ft2 two-story structure has been restored to preserve its historic character, including original heart pine floors, transom windows and architectural details reflective of its Arts and Crafts-influenced design. Inside, the inn will feature six suites, each with a private bath and custom cypress beds handcrafted by local woodworker Glen De Gruy. A defining feature of the inn is its wraparound front porch lined with classic rocking chairs and overlooking downtown. Summit Street Inn is the first restoration in Fairhope to utilize both National Park Service Historic Tax Credits and Alabama Historic Tax Credits. The renovation is being led by Fairhope Building Co., with builder Lane Otto and project supervisor Josh Dike overseeing the work. Summit Street Inn offers an alternative to larger, amenity-driven properties in the area.
