Red Or White Executive Chef Arwen Rice Named James Beard Semifinalist

Arwen Rice, executive chef at Red or White, has been named a 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist in the Best Chef: South category. Rice is one of only five Alabama restaurants or chefs to be listed as a semifinalist. According to Alabama News Center, Rice was raised in New Mexico and started working in restaurants as a teenager. “Her menu includes French-inspired fare from gourgères bites to chicken liver mousse, charcuterie boards and a creative fusion smoked brisket pâté. Another inspired dish is the snacking board featuring roasted local vegetables. Gourmet pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven,” the website reports. Nominees will be announced on April 3, and winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony on June 10 in Chicago.
