E.O. Wilson Program Announced

E.O. Wilson, who died at age 92 on December 26, 2021, will be recognized with a tribute and special program on October 7 at 5-7:30 p.m. at the Mobile Museum of Art, AL.com announced. Mobile writer and filmmaker Ben Raines, a former AL.com journalist, will provide an introduction. Though born in Birmingham, Wilson spent his formative years in Mobile and graduated from the University of Alabama with degrees in biology in 1950. He continued his studies at Harvard University, where he was a professor for 40 years. His worldwide travel conducting research and lecturing won him more than 150 awards, including the National Medal of Science and two Pulitzer Prizes. He also wrote more than 30 books and 400 scientific research papers. The program takes place on the 10-year anniversary of the release of Wilson’s 2012 book, Why We Are Here: Mobile and the Spirit of a Southern City. It is sponsored by the Carolyn W. Saunders Foundation and supported by a range of local organizations.
