NCPJ Holds, Davis Co-Chairs Annual Conference In Gulf Shores

The National College of Probate Judges (NCPJ) recently held its annual conference at the Lodge at Gulf State Park. Approximately 100 probate judges from throughout the nation attended, and Mobile County’s Judge of Probate Don Davis was co-chair. During the conference, the National College of Probate Judges gave a special award to Rita Soronin, president and CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation, for her and the foundation’s hard work to find permanent homes for the more than 140,000 U.S. and Canadian children in foster care. Though states have varied responsibilities for probate judges (i.e., in some states, including Alabama, they serve as chief elections officers for their counties), many of their roles are similar. A nearly universal function of probate judges is to rule in the adoption process.
