Alabama Sees Record Exports

Alabama companies exported goods and services worth more than $27.4 billion in 2023, marking the second straight year exports bested the previous year’s total, AL.com reports. This is an increase of more than 6% from the 2022 mark of $25.5 billion, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce. The state’s goods were shipped to 190 countries, with Germany topping the list at $5.1 billion (up 17%) worth of goods. Other top trading partners included Canada at $3.9 billion (down 2%), China at $3.8 billion (up 15%), Mexico at $3.2 billion (up 16%) and South Korea at $1.2 billion (up 15%). Other leading destinations for Alabama exports in 2023 were Japan, Brazil, Poland, India and Saudi Arabia. Since 2020, the state’s exports have increased by almost 43%. According to the Alabama State Port Authority, Mobile’s APM Terminals was the fastest-growing container terminal in the U.S. between 2017 and 2022.
