APM Terminals Expansion Gets Underway

Construction is moving forward on previously announced plans to expand and modernize the Port of Mobile’s Intermodal Container Transfer Facility. The Mobile Industrial Development Board has approved support for the project, which represents $58.6 million in capital investment by APM Terminals Mobile in coordination with the Alabama Port Authority. The expansion will add two 3,000-ft working tracks and introduce two cantilever rail-mounted gantry cranes. These upgrades are to significantly expand the capacity and efficiency of the facility, helping reduce over-the-road truck dependency while strengthening intermodal rail access statewide. APM Terminals said the project will create eight new direct jobs and retains 359 existing high-paying positions. The improvements are expected to be complete by the end of 2026.
