Austal Wins Design Contract

Austal USA of Mobile has announced receipt of a $2-million contract for design studies for the U.S. Navy’s Next Generation Logistics Ship program, Defense Brief reports. The contract requires that the company develops a new baseline design and performs specific trade studies for the navy’s newest logistics ship, envisioned as, potentially, a family of vessels to rearm, refuel and resupply afloat and ashore units near contested environments. Austal Ltd. CEO Paddy Gregg said the contract was another significant step forward in Austal USA’s expansion into steel naval ship design and construction. The expected procurement cost for each ship in the program is $150 million each.
