Austal’s Turrens Named A Top 20 Woman In Maritime

IT Solutions Architect Dr. Barbara Turrens of Mobile’sAustal USA has been recognized by Marine Log as one of its “20 Top Women in Maritime.” The publication accepts nominations annually for visionary women in the maritime industry. A panel of judges selected Turrens after receiving nearly 200 nominations this year. Noting her demonstrated leadership, vision, innovation and accomplishments, the magazine said, “Over her 15-plus years with Austal USA, Turrens has focused on bringing technology-based solutions and process improvements to a variety of business units within the organization. She has touched almost every stage of Austal USA’s operation from business development, through contract negotiation, risk analysis, engineering and design, ship manufacturing and post-delivery services.” She is a licensed Professional Engineer with a PhD in systems engineering and a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of South Alabama. In her 30-plus-year career, she has demonstrated success in process improvement, management and design.
