Grant To Prepare Novelis Site Let

Gov. Kay Ivey has announced a Community Development Block Grant to fund $2.5 million in work to help Bay Minette and Baldwin County prepare for the construction of Novelis’ new aluminum manufacturing plant. Bay Minette Mayor Robert Wills said the grant will help the city and North Baldwin Utilities (NBU) extend water and sewer lines to the site near I-65. The city and NBU will also provide $650,000 in labor and equipment for the utility extensions. Wills said the city will also continue to work with officials and Novelis to provide services needed during construction and after the plant opens. He said the city is also working on plans to control traffic at the site. Ground was broken on the $2.5-billion low-carbon recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette in October 2022.
