Gulf Distributing’s Move In Mobile Detailed

AL.com has reported on details of beverage wholesaler Gulf Distributing Co.’s move to the former home of the Press-Register in Downtown Mobile. Gulf Distributing, which celebrated 50 years in 2023, is looking to expand its business. As part of the expansion, Mobile’s Architectural Review Board approved construction of a vehicle maintenance facility (VMF) at the Water Street location. Gulf Distributing exchanged land with the city to extend the building’s campus by 3.5 acres and is now looking to add 85,000 ft2 of warehouse space to the building, in addition to the VMF. Even more square footage could be added later, Brice Zickhur with designer HDA Architects said. Gulf Distributing is expected to invest $25 million in the renovation and expansion, to be completed in spring 2025. It also plans to invest $7 million in wages and workforce benefits, as well as restructure its senior leadership and hire 60 employees across its operations in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida this year. It expects 100 new jobs for just Mobile over the next five to seven years.
