Mega Site Gets New Infusion Of Funds

The South Alabama Mega Site in Bay Minette is receiving $5.5 million for additional site improvements to prepare the 3,009-acre tract of land for potential development, AL.com reported. The Growing Alabama Commission approved the funds to help construct an onsite rail spur on the existing rail bed, construct of a wye and connect the spur to the CSX mainline. So far, the Growing Alabama Tax Credit program has invested approximately $12.5 million in the location, which is at Highway 287 and Interstate 65. Prior investments were used to develop a 200-acre building pad at the site and the onsite rail bed. Lee Lawson, president and CEO of the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, which owns the site, said the improvements could shorten development timelines by more than a year. Once the project is complete, the site’s ownership is to be returned to the Baldwin County Commission.
