Multimodal Service To Link Mobile, Mexico

Maritime and logistics firm Crowley Maritime Corp. has announced plans for a new multimodal service linking trade from Mexico to the Midwest and into Canada via the Port of Mobile, Business Alabama reports. The integrated ocean-and-rail service will combine Crowley’s new U.S.-Mexico ocean route—between Mobile and Tuxpan, Mexico—with Canadian National Railway networks in the U.S. and Canada. The weekly shipping service can carry up to 1,000 20-foot-equivalent-unit containers and more than 200 refrigerated containers, while avoiding inland transportation congestion at the border, Crowley says. From Mobile, rail service will transport containers to cities including Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Memphis, Toronto and Montreal.
