Novelis Plant Completion Delayed

Sustainable aluminum rolling and recycling provider Novelis Inc. has announced updates to its plans for a low-carbon recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette. Project costs have escalated more than 60% above original projections to $4.1 billion, a recent earnings report revealed. There has also been a delay of its completion date to the “second half of calendar year 2026.” Steve Fisher, president and CEO, added, “With customer contracts for beverage packaging already signed and automotive contracting proceeding as planned, we remain confident in the double-digit return of this historic investment.” The facility, to have 1,000 employees with an average annual salary of approximately $65,000, is to be the first fully integrated aluminum mill built in the U.S. in 40 years. Ground was broken on the plant in October 2022.
