Port Sees Record Growth

MOBILE, Ala. — The Port of Mobile had its busiest month ever for containerized cargo in July, breaking 50,000 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the first time since the container port began operations in 2009, Business Alabama reported. The year-over-year comparison reflects a growth rate of 184.7% for intermodal cargo and 35.8% for dry and refrigerated cargo. July was the port’s seventh consecutive month to post double- and triple-digit growth for overall throughput volume and intermodal rail volume, respectively. It is now on track to surpass 500,000 TEUs in 2022. With its planned APM Terminals expansion (BBN #95), the terminal’s throughput is expected to double to 1 million TEUs in 2025 and, eventually, 2.5 million TEUs.
