Shipyard Awarded Big Contract

NBC 15 reported on a contract published by the U.S. Department of Defense on January 25 with Alabama Shipyard, LLC of Mobile worth $19,679,483. The firm-fixed-price contract is for a 76-day shipyard availability for the regular overhaul/dry docking on USNS Lewis and Clark. The contract includes options that, if exercised, would bring its total value to $21,847,693. Work on the dry cargo ship is to be completed by May 24. The lead ship in its class, the vessel has a length of 210 m, a beam of 32.2 m, a draft of 9.12 m and a displacement of 41,000 T. It can carry almost 7,000 mT of dry cargo and ammunition and 23,500 barrels of fuel.
