Airbus Outdelivers Boeing

Airbus saw an uptick in its first quarter of the year, in which it delivered 142 airplanes, marking an increase from its first-quarter 2023 figure of 127. Boeing’s deliveries of commercial aircraft have faltered in the first three months of the year, Statistica reports. Boeing delivered only 83 planes in the most recent quarter, which is down from 130 in the same three-month period of last year. It has been mired in a series of safety issues this quarter, which has limited its U.S. headquarters producing 38 737-model planes per month until it is clear that quality and safety procedures are being properly adhered to, per the Federal Aviation Administration. Boeing has slowed production even below this limit, with the company’s Chief Financial Officer Brian West stating that once the company has it “right,” it will ramp up production. He expects to see figures improve in the latter half of the year. With few companies having the capacity to produce large jets, both Airbus and Boeing continue to have a long backlog of orders: 8,598 at the end of 2023 for Airbus and 5,591 at the end of March for Boeing.
