Austal Wins Another Contract

Mobile’s Austal USA has been awarded a repair, maintenance and modernization contract for all U.S. Navy littoral combat ships (LCSes) based in Mayport, Florida, Business Alabama reports. The new deal comes on the heels of a similar contract for ships based in San Diego (BBN #54). “As a result, Austal USA is now positioned to support the entire LCS fleet worldwide,” the firm commented. Now, it says, it can support both variants anywhere in the world for the Navy. Following its expansion along 15 acres of Mobile waterfront (BBN #7 and 8), Austal USA has grown to become the nation’s fifth-largest shipbuilder, working with both aluminum and steel craft, and it remains Mobile’s largest industrial employer.
