SSAB Opens Production Line

SSAB Americas held a ribbon cutting this week to commemorate the opening of a new $100-million production line at its steel mill in Mobile County. The significant expansion, several years in the making, will add approximately 50 jobs to the more than 600 SSAB has already created in the county. The work expanded the company’s manufacturing footprint by 54,000 ft2 and added new equipment to increase production capacity and efficiencies for quenched and tempered steels. The mill was built in 2001, and SSAB began operations in 2007. It is one of Alabama’s largest steel scrap recyclers, consuming approximately 1.6 million tons of scrap metal annually.
