Marspec Celebrates Centennial

Marspec Technical Products of Spanish Fort is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The marine specialty company was established by two partners in 1923 in Mobile to serve the needs of the maritime industry. Over the ensuing years, its focus evolved to provide materials and services for industrial customers, such as chemical processing, wood products, power generation and manufacturing, with products for steam control, corrosives conveyance and flow control. In the mid-1930s to mid-1960s, Marspec diversified into fields including consulting engineering, general contracting, boiler erection and the then-new science of air conditioning. Many of these divisions were spun off into separate freestanding companies that exist today as successful enterprises. As time passed, the business focused more on the chemical processing and forest products industries. To meet the needs of this group of customers, it added the capability to produce plastic-lined piping systems, automated valves and other custom items. Today, Marspec offers equipment including advanced cooling towers, “smart” automated valves and advanced steam traps.
