WKRG Names News Director

Gene Kirkconnell has been named news director of WKRG in Mobile, the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce announced. Kirkconnell comes to WKRG from WRBL in Columbus, Georgia, where he was the news director for the past two and a half years. He has also worked as news director of WLTZ, WCBD, KSNW and WNCT, and as general manager for WVTM in Birmingham and WJBF in Augusta, Georgia. He received three Emmy Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award and an Edward R. Murrow Award. Kirkconnell will begin at the station on June 1.
