USA Health Breaks Ground In Mobile, Fairhope

USA Health kicked off construction of an expansion of the Pediatric Emergency Center at Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Midtown Mobile. Scheduled for completion in summer 2023, the new facility will more than double the current emergency department space and expand from 14 treatment areas to more than 30 areas, including 25 private treatment rooms. The project also will create two behavioral health rooms and a sensory room for the care of patients with specialized needs. Further, the space will provide enough room for parents and caregivers to be with their children. The estimated cost of the renovation, construction and equipment for the project is $15 million, with USA Health already having raised nearly the entire amount through donations and state appropriations. Walcott Adams Verneuille of Fairhope is the architectural firm for the facility.

USA Health has also broken ground on the Mapp Family Campus in Fairhope at the southeast corner of state Highways 181 and 104 in Fairhope. The campus will be home to an ambulatory surgery center and a physician office building. The campus will be home to a three-story, 50,000-ft2 physician office building staffed with primary and specialty care providers for neurology, cardiology, surgeries, pediatric and adult gastroenterology and urology. The building will also house imaging technology, including X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, CT and MRI. Within the 25,000-ft2 ambulatory surgery center, surgeons from USA Health and the community will utilize technologically advanced surgical equipment, including a Mako robotic arm to assist in total joint replacements. Here, surgical specialists in pediatrics, orthopedics, urology, general surgery, gastroenterology, ear, nose and throat, and more will be available. A demonstration kitchen and community room, where caregivers and coaches will provide opportunities to engage patients in movement, relaxation and healthy-eating classes, will also be included. The construction investment for the campus during the next two years is an estimated $30 million. In addition to job creation for an estimated 225 construction workers, there will be approximately 100 new jobs, USA Health said. Walcott Adams Verneuille is also the architectural firm for this facility, Concord Healthcare Development of Nashville is the project manager, and Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC, of Birmingham is the general contractor.
