Crepe Myrtle Trail Ride Tomorrow

MOBILE, Ala. — Nonprofit Mobile United is holding the Crepe Myrtle Trail Ride on April 9 at Arlington Park in Mobile. Registration is at 800 a.m., and the bicycle ride begins at 830 a.m. The official turnaround spot is McNally Park, making the route 12 mi. long. The speed of the race is “beginner friendly-moderate” at 8-12 mph. Cost of entry is $5 for riders 13 and up until noon today and $10 on the day of the ride. Children 8-12 may enter for free. Helmets are required, no training wheels are allowed, and no riders under age 8 or in a trailer/tag-a-long are allowed. Mobile United’s Natural Resource Task Force organized the inaugural ride in 2014 in an effort to draw awareness to the proposed Crepe Myrtle Bike and Pedestrian Trail, part of the Mobile Greenway Initiative, a multiuse waterfront trail stretching from the University of South Alabama and Langan Park along Three Mile Creek south to Dog River and, eventually, Dauphin Island. Funds from the registration fee are only to cover the expenses of snacks, drinks, sunscreen, medical supplies, etc. For more information about the event, call Mobile United at 251-432-1638.
