Driftwood Housing Kicks Off

MOBILE, Ala. — Retired couple Dale and Reba Pfeiffer of Mobile have started Driftwood Housing to provide shelters to the local homeless population, NBC15 reports. "We are creating what is called ‘micro-housing’; it’s basically like a cabin,” Dale Pfeiffer said. “It will have air conditioning, heating and electricity for such things as a microwave and a small refrigerator." Each home costs approximately $7,000 and includes several amenities. Protocols such as mental check-ups will be in place to foster a safe and healthy environment. Accepted occupants will be put on a waiting list for permanent housing. Once money is raised via sources such as GoFundMe, plans are to build in areas with the largest homeless population. Orange Grove and the area between Dauphin Island Parkway and Tillman’s Corner are being targeted, with a goal to purchase a lot and break ground in February 2023.
