Feeding The Gulf Coast Breaks Ground On Expansion

Feeding the Gulf Coast of Theodore broke ground on a significant expansion of its warehouse on June 10, “marking a major investment in the organization’s ability to serve neighbors facing hunger across South Alabama, South Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle,” the nonprofit said. The expansion will add 12,500 ft2 of food storage space and increase warehouse storage capacity by 103%, creating an additional 1,000 pallet locations. Food distribution capacity will be increased by at least 20%, helping meet the needs of more than 384,000 food-insecure individuals across the food bank’s 24-county service area. The project will also strengthen regional disaster response operations. More than 800 partner agencies, including food pantries, schools, churches, shelters and nonprofit organizations, will benefit from the expanded capacity. Funding for the project is being provided by Impact100 Mobile, Publix Super Market Charities and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. Construction began in January 2026 and is expected to be completed in phases over the next two years.
