Hughey Named Lee Charities Director

Lee Charities, Inc., a Foley-based nonprofit, has announced the appointment of Penny Hughey as director of community development, effective December 1. In her new position, Hughey will have responsibility for all marketing, promotion and fundraising efforts for the Sea Glass Initiative, Inc., which focuses on addressing the needs of the unsheltered in Baldwin County. She will also design and execute programs to improve the effectiveness of the nonprofit community in Baldwin County through training, development and giving initiatives. Hughey will be part of the Lee Charities executive team, helping to set the strategic direction for the foundation and build partnerships to enhance its objectives. “I’m honored to bring my business experience and network to strengthen the heart of our community—our nonprofits,” she said. “Just as I’ve spent the past six years as vice president of programs and education for the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, creating programs, events, and initiatives to empower small businesses and emerging entrepreneurs, I am now committed to ensuring Baldwin County’s nonprofits have the support, training, and resources they need to thrive and better serve those who need help the most.”
