Baldwin Realtors Helping Enhance Downtown Foley With Grant

Baldwin REALTORS will use a $7,500 Placemaking Grant from the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) to help transform an unused eyesore in Downtown Foley into a vibrant gathering space for community connectivity. Baldwin REALTORS will use the funds to assist in the purchasing of seating, lighting and landscaping for Cat Alley, which is behind the famous Hotel Magnolia and named for the original owner John Snook’s love of cats. Main Street Alabama, the City of Foley and Brightspeed have aided in the project. The Placemaking Grant was designed by NAR to ensure local REALTOR associations are partnering with other neighboring organizations to plan, organize, implement and maintain lighter, quicker and cheaper placemaking projects in their communities. NAR offers grants to state and local REALTOR associations around the country to create new public spaces and destinations in a community, such as turning a parking spot into a people spot (parklet) or a vacant lot into a pocket park or garden. The groups are hoping to have the Cat Alley project completed by November.
