Four-Story Mixed-Use Building Planned For Downtown Mobile
The City of Mobile’s Architectural Review Board recently approved plans for a four-story mixed-use apartment and retail building at the corner of North Claiborne and Congress streets in the DeTonti Square Historic District, Downtown Mobile Today reports. Plans call for 36 apartments above ground-floor retail, including a restaurant. The building forms part of the larger La Maison at DeTonti development, which also includes six single-family homes on Claiborne Street and two townhouses, plus a triplex on Adams Street. The site at 311 North Claiborne Street was donated by the Mobile City Council last year to the city’s affordable-housing program. The land, previously owned by the Mobile County Public School System, is reserved for housing for teachers, firefighters and police officers earning less than 80% of the area’s median income.
