Orange Beach To Accept Donation For Additional Rental Cabins

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Orange Beach is expected to accept a $200,000 donation from the Beard-Young Family Foundation to help pay for a project to build rental cabins at the Rosemary Dunes trailhead on the Backcountry Trail, the OBA website recently reported. It added that the council discussed the donation at the May 3 work session and will likely vote to accept it at the next regular session on May 17. The goal is to have the first four cabins in what will be named “Young’s Hideaway” built this year, with another four to eight coming in the next year or so. The site can accommodate 14 to 16. The one-bedroom cabins will range from 350 ft2 to almost 400 ft2 of heated and cooled space, with additional screened porches on the exterior. Each cabin will have parking room for one car. Auburn University’s engineering department provided the designs for the cabins through a contest with aspiring architects who are juniors at the school. Construction costs are estimated to be between $50,000 and $60,000 per cabin.
