Law Passed for Traveling Hair and Nail Salons

Gov. Kay Ivey has signed a law that will make operating mobile hair and nail salons possible once rules are established by January 1, 2022, AL.com reported. The state law was part of a bill created by Rep. Barbara Drummond of Mobile as an effort to help the businesses during the pandemic when there was no regulatory framework for mobile locations. HB 274 received early bipartisan sponsorship to give businesses a way to keep operating in unexpected circumstances. It authorizes the Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering to regulate and license mobile salons to provide hair- and nail-related services and gave the board a deadline of January 1, 2022, to adopt regulations for them. Drummond mentioned owner of Greg’s Professional Barber & Beauty Salon in Mobile, Gregory B. Morris, Sr., as the one who first pitched the idea to her. Morris said he envisions a mobile barbershop as a way to serve disabled veterans who might have difficulty traveling.
