Wawa Holds Groundbreaking For First Alabama Store In Fairhope

Wawa, a privately held, family-owned chain of 1,000 convenience retail stores currently operating in six states and Washington D.C., officially broke ground on its first store in Alabama in Fairhope on June 13. Wawa hosted more than 25 VIP customers, as well as local officials and partners, who participated in the groundbreaking and received an update on Wawa’s growth plans for the market, which included announcing the next site to go under construction this year on Cottage Hill and Sollie roads in Mobile, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for October. The Fairhope store is projected to open in second quarter 2024. At the groundbreaking, Wawa presented a $2,500 grant to Prodisee Pantry to purchase children-friendly foods, including peanut butter and jelly, applesauce and granola bars, for a program with the local library to teach children how to cook healthy.
