Winn-Dixie To Close Last Of Alabama Stores

Southeastern Grocers is rebranding as The Winn-Dixie Co. and will be focusing on its home state of Florida as part of a reorganization, pulling out of several states, including Alabama, AL.com reports. Southeastern said it will sell most of its locations outside Florida, including 32 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harvey’s Supermarkets in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, to other grocery store companies. Winn-Dixie has 20 stores in Alabama. After the moves, Winn-Dixie will operate approximately 130 grocery and 140 liquor stores in Florida and Georgia. Earlier this year, Winn-Dixie closed four locations in three Alabama cities. Aldi is converting 220 Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s stores it previously acquired, including stores in Alabama, into Aldi locations.
