Bayside Student Named All-American Hurdler

Rising senior Patrick Daves at Bayside Academy in Daphne won the 110-m hurdles (17-18 division) at the USA Track & Field Masters Outdoor Championships Youth Outdoor Nationals in Rome, Georgia, and has been named an All-American hurdler following his fifth-place finish at The Outdoor Nationals presented by Nike in Eugene, Oregon, in early July. Daves has been a member of Bayside Academy’s track and field program since the seventh grade. He won his first individual state championship in the 60-m hurdles with a time of 8.88 seconds as a freshman in 2019. Since, he has won 10 additional individual state championships, all in hurdle and jumping events, and contributed to a team indoor championship in 2020. In this year’s 3A Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) State Meet in Cullman, Daves won all four individual events in which he competed. He is the only athlete, regardless of classification, to score 40 points at any AHSAA State Meet. He helped Bayside Academy accomplish a second outdoor state runner-up title in three years. Daves is currently ranked first in Alabama and 25th in the nation for 110-m hurdles, as well as second in the state and 73rd in the nation for 300-m hurdles as of July 10. Additionally, according to the MileSplit rankings in early June, he is ranked as 21st in the top recruits for the class of 2022.
