County, City Of Mobile Invest In Future Aquatic Center

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — The Mobile County Commission, aided with American Rescue Plan money, recently allocated $4 million, and the Mobile City Council dedicated $3 million toward a future aquatic center at the Mobile County Soccer Complex at 3701 Halls Mill Road, AL.com reported. Supporters say $15-$18 million will be needed to begin a project that, at a minimum, will include an indoor instructional pool and a separate 50-m pool that will allow for competitions. Officials are contemplating a phased approach, depending on how much money is available to build it. Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson, who has taken the lead on the aquatic center, said she hopes the private sector and Mobile County Public School System can help. The city has an aquatics league, which practices at Bishop State Community College, which has the city’s only competition pool, but it is considered outdated and cannot host large-scale events.
