Funds Awarded For Bayou La Batre Waterfront Project
The Mobile County Commission has awarded $24.4 million for a project aimed at transforming Bayou La Batre’s waterfront to Ben M. Radcliff Contractors, Inc., FOX10 News reports. Work on the Bayou La Batre City Dock Redevelopment Project is expected to take approximately two years. Once completed, the waterfront project will feature a seafood marketplace with two 4,500-ft2 open‑air pavilions, portable restroom facilities and a direct-from-boat sales pier; a full-service marina with a 6,108-ft2 elevated marina building; a boat launch with a four-lane concrete boat ramp with courtesy docks, gangways, protective rock revetment and expanded paved parking; and site improvements including demolition of old structures, new bulkheads, boardwalks, utilities, lighting, sidewalks, curbs, landscaping, signage and benches. The dock revitalization will also support direct seafood sales, expand charter fishing and ecotourism, and increase community gathering and market space. Moffatt & Nichol provided the master planning, engineering and design.
