Gulf State Park Pier Set To Reopen

Hurricane Sally badly damaged the Gulf State Park Pier, which had been set to reopen on September 16, AL.com reports. The $2.4-million renovation was the first overhaul of the pier since its original opening. Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner Chris Blankenship said on September 16 that he was unsure what remains of the structure and how much damage it sustained. WKRG’s video shows a large section in the center of the pier destroyed. Conversely, the Gulf State Park Lodge had “minimal damage,” Blankenship reported.
