McElroy Honored at Clark-Shaw Naming Ceremony

Longtime Shaw High School basketball coach William “Bill” McElroy was honored at a June 23 ceremony that saw the naming of the school’s gym in his honor, Call News reports. Approximately 150 people, including former players who came from across the country, attended the event at the Clark-Shaw Magnet School in Mobile. McElroy served as Shaw’s varsity basketball coach in 1965-1993. He also served as an assistant football and baseball coach and head golf coach at the school. McElroy is a native of York, Alabama, and graduated from Sumter County High School and Livingston State College. He taught physical education and was an assistant basketball coach at Theodore High School beginning in 1962.
