Mobile County Aquatic Center Beam Signing Marks Progress

Mobile County Commissioners signed the first steel beam for the main building of the Mobile County Aquatic Center before it was hoisted into place on August 8. Construction of the multibuilding 40,000-ft2 swimming facility is approximately halfway complete. It is expected to open in early summer 2026. The Mobile County Commission broke ground on the center on September 6, 2024. Current specifications for Mobile County Aquatic Center Phase I are an outdoor 25-yd by 50-m competition pool with a 12-ft diving well, eight lanes and a large spectator viewing area; an indoor 25-yd by 25-m training/warmup pool, along with restrooms, locker rooms, offices and meeting areas; a concession building with additional office space; a mechanical building and 127 parking spots. When complete, Phase I of construction will meet the requirements for accreditation by USA Swimming. According to the City of Mobile Swim Association, when fully built (Phase I and Phase II), the center will be the second-largest aquatic facility in Alabama.
