Mobile Cuts Ribbon On Figures Park Playground

The City of Mobile and Mobile Parks and Recreation Department (MPRD) recently celebrated the opening of a nationally recognized playground at Figures Park. Designed and installed by Struthers Recreation, the playground is a $600,000 investment funded by the City of Mobile’s Capital Improvement Program. It has already been recognized as part of PlayCore’s National Demonstration Site Program, which promotes physical activity and nature-based play, for its design. It is the third MPRD facility to be recognized by PlayCore, joining recently built playgrounds at Mill Street and Tricentennial Park. The Figures Park playground includes multiple designated play areas for children of a range of ages and abilities. Some of the features include climbing activities, splash nets, zip lines, towers and slides. The design also includes inclusive play structures, such as a double zip track with a zero-G chair for children who need additional support. The playground was designed to engage children physically by incorporating six key elements of play: balancing, brachiating, climbing, spinning, sliding and swinging. It incorporates existing trees and natural landscapes to help connect children to nature and support healthy development.
