Mobile Sports Authority Reports Record High For FY 2024

The Mobile Sports Authority, the sports tourism agency for the City and County of Mobile, reported that the organization attracted, supported and/or hosted 39 sports events during fiscal year (FY) 2024, which ran from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024. As a result of those 39 events, FY 2024 generated an estimated $38.1 million for the Mobile area economy. The results set a new annual economic impact record for the authority, eclipsing last year’s impact of $30.9 million. As a comparison, since 2020, the authority has hosted an average of 35 events per year, representing almost a 25% increase over the previous average for the 2012-2020 (28 average events per year then versus 35 average events per year now). Additionally, 15 of the 39 events held last FY were either first- or second-time events for the authority, and 24 of the 39 events were youth-oriented, which typically attract more visitors, as more members of the families tend to travel for them.
