Navy Ship To Be Present During Mardi Gras

According to the Downtown Mobile Alliance’s Downtown Lowdown, the Mobile Council of the Navy League of the United States and the City of Mobile will be hosting the USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) at the Alabama Cruise Terminal during Carnival Season. The Navy ship should begin transiting the Mobile Ship Channel shortly after daybreak on February 17, with an anticipated arrival at the Cruise Terminal sometime around 10 a.m. The ship will be in the Port of Mobile through February 22. The Navy League will also be sponsoring a Dinner for Sailors program in which local citizens can apply to take sailors from the Gunston Hall to dinner or to a parade. The Gunston Hall‘s mission is to transport U.S. Marines with their combat equipment to designated areas around the world, then to launch and support assault landing craft and helicopters during amphibious operations against hostile shores.
