Stimpson Awards USA Football Coach With Citizenship Medal

MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson recently presented an Exceptional Citizenship Medal to University of South Alabama (USA) Head Football Coach Kane Wommack during a meeting of the Mobile City Council. One of the mantras that has been at the forefront of the Jaguars’ football program since Wommack’s arrival has been “Our City.” Wommack has used “Our City” to drive home the importance of civic engagement and community representation to the young men on his football team. He has emphasized that anyone involved in the program embrace the city as their own. He has also been very present in the community through a variety of platforms. During the 2021 season, he and the program embraced and featured elements such as Mobile native Hank Aaron and his legacy in season-opening helmet decals, holding a Mardi Gras-style pregame parade on the team’s way into the stadium, and using “#OurCity” on apparel, videos and other areas within the program. The mayor’s office awards Exceptional Citizenship Medals to Mobilians making a positive impact in the community through their positions of influence and actions.
