The Lakewood Club Opens Championship-Grade Croquet Lawns

The Lakewood Club at the Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa in Point Clear recently celebrated its 75th anniversary and the grand opening of two championship-grade croquet lawns with a mixed exhibition match. The courts are laser-leveled golf greens, which must be cut every day in summer months. They have the same TifEagle Bermuda, described as “an ultra-dwarf grass” also used on the Lakewood Club golf courses. The club will offer lessons and social events to introduce croquet to its broader membership and hotel guests. There will be a food and beverage facet to all croquet events. The courts are on the northeast side of the Lakewood Club Aquatics Center overlooking Sweetwater Lake.
